There are several medical lab schools all over the country and they contrast in one way or the other depending on the state of accreditation. Despite of all these there are some basic similarities between the schools such as there are a number of common subjects taught in the medical schools. Adequate training in an extensive array of subjects is very important so as to accomplish common tasks regularly needed by medical assistants.
In view of the fact that medical assistants carry out a diversity of administrative duties and clinical services, there are a number of important classes one should undertake while in the medical assisting program.
These classes may include:
Cardiopulmonary – to give you the insight into respiratory and circulatory system, you have to learn so as to be able to check vital signs and know the medical terminologies.
Electrocardiography – here you will learn about the electrical pathways of the heart muscle.
Laboratory procedures – you will learn common lab events that are performed in a medical office; Transportation, collection and proper handling of various bio specimens are taught here.
Endocrinology and reproduction – You will learn an overview of the skeletal, endocrine and the entire reproductive systems. Also a study on child growth will be incorporated here.
Medical Insurance – Get to know how to work with health care insurance companies for it is a very important skill for medical assistants.
There are many other subjects that can be of importance and must be included in your program for example disease transmission, patient care, pharmacology and many more.
These classes should not be taught all at once since they seem to be overwhelming; you will be required to undertake three classes at a time depending on the medical assisting program you will join.
For your own good these classes might be blended together to save time, however, you must ensure that they are integrated in your study. Medical lab technicians are supposed to read intensively or extensively. You should not worry about the broad class list since they are only names for the subjects and you should be certain that the words sound worse than the classes really are.
